As President, I welcome you to Kapiti Camera Club \ Porirua Photographic Club.
Many years ago, I was like many others trying to improve my photographic skills. By finding this club, I have been involved in many of their activities, moving through the competitive levels as I have gained confidence and understanding to produce better images. There is still a long way for me to go and so much more to learn. I have made friends and been taught by experienced, award winning (national and international) photographers both amateur and professional.
We have the aim to encourage the enjoyment of photography. Within this club, it doesn’t matter how you make your images. We use all sorts of cameras. From the basic mobile phone, up to the real flash top end Samsung and Apple products. There are some that use their pocket point and shoot cameras. You will see many of us with the traditional Digital SLR. We all enjoy the challenge at all levels of producing an amazing image to the best of our own ability.
We meet throughout the year on Tuesday nights to learn, teach, show, or compete as we continue our individual photographic journey’s. There are frequent photographic guests invited along to club nights to expand our knowledge, regale us with the tales of how they got their images and inspire us to emulate what is shown. Our experienced members give talks and demonstrations on the photographic basics or techniques to educate the new, push us to try a different approach and remind the rest of us, what we have forgotten. Some of our members are serious travellers who take their cameras to remote spots throughout the world. These images have you running to the boarding gate to experience for yourself.
This club is one that likes to get out of the clubrooms to locations around Porirua, Wellington region and around the country. We are happy photographing in the heart of the city and out into the wilds of New Zealand’s stunning scenery. Every so often we will visit another club or society and explore their region with them. All this is done in a fun, social, easy going communal spirit. We also know where a lot of the good food and drink can be found. There is no age limit with photography. Our club spans a wide variety of ages and experience levels. We welcome anyone who shares our passion for the photographic image.
Please enjoy looking around this site, we hope to see you soon at a club night.
